A 35 year old male Crossfit competitor comes to see me about twice a month, sometimes more depending on how mean he’s being to his body.
One of the biggest issues he had was reaching overhead, so he couldn’t do activities such as handstand pushups or holding weights above his head for extended periods of time. The best treatment for gaining in this range of motion is latissimus dorsi lengthening through cupping, so that his arms can move with more ease. Another problem he was having was that his glutes were short, which affected his squatting form. These were the original main focus of treatment, however we discovered as we went along that his diaphragm was stuck. When I asked, he told me he had hit a brick wall with his running and couldn’t decrease his time at all. However, after I cupped him and released his diaphragm, he was able to decrease his time significantly.
He also occasionally comes to me right before competition for some body sculpting work to make his muscles really pop.
